The love and tradition of farming runs deep in our family roots. The farm on 120th Ave has been in Mari’s family since 1858. Bartel VanderZwaag settled in Crisp, Michigan after immigrating from the Netherlands in 1855. With a lot of hard work he and his family built a house and a barn and began their dream of farming. The house that stands on the farm now has gone thru many changes, but is the original home built in 1858. The original barn burned and was replaced in 1899 with the barn that is standing on the farm today. The farm was named Crisp Country Acres because the town where Bartel VanderZwaag settled in 1858 was called Crisp and we thought it would be a neat way to incorporate our history of farming into the name.
We are a family owned farm located in Mattawan Michigan. We have a unique combination of seasonal field vegetables, greenhouse hydroponic produce grown in a clean and controlled environment year round and grow evergreen trees for landscaping and for use during the holiday season. We opened our greenhouse operation in early spring of 2012 with the idea of growing fresh local produce without using any pesticides or insecticides. Grown in a controlled environment there is no dirt, no bugs and no disease, making it a safe and healthy product to enjoy year round. Although we can not call it organic it is the next best thing. We serve individual needs as well as many local restaurants in the Kalamazoo and surrounding area.
Grayling Ceramics is the partnership of Shay and Maura Church. Shay's career as a ceramic artist and Maura's career in the restaurant business merged to form Grayling in 2014. The face and backbone of Young Earth Farm belongs to Dave Warkentien, a man who radiates authenticity and happiness manifested in a simple conversation with him. Dave specializes in producing various types of meat including bacon, whole chickens, sausage, pork chops, and steaks. Dave promises that none of his meat contains MSG, nitrates, or added hormones. All of his animals are fed a vegetarian diet and are free to roam on a pasture or in the woods. Dave says his pork products are best-sellers because they use Heritage breeds only, which yield higher quality meat and flavor. In addition, Dave sells something unique that no other vendors carry- fresh fish from Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula caught by Native Americans, specifically the Ojibwa and Cherokee tribes.

"Great new addition to downtown Kazoo- love the way the building has been done incorporating the original brick and some of the previous mechanical stuff. I didn't know about pottery made in Kazoo-love the fact they use the local stuff. . Our server was very good- skilled. I had the L'Oignon soup and 600 salad- both were perfectly prepared and I loved the flavors in the salad. Can hardly wait to go back again."
